This tree grows to 150 feet and is found in the high mountain forests of the Rocky Mountains and the Cascades.
The bark is thin reddish-grey with large loose scales. The soft flexible needles are less then an inch long, four-sided, and are the same color on all four sides. The oblong and thin-scaled cones grow on the upper half of the tree and fall after they mature in one year.
To sprout the seeds, plant the seeds in a deep container with soil mix kept moist.
