Branches tend to turn upward at the ends of this straight trunked tree which grows to 125 feet. The yellow-green needles last on the tree for 3-5 years. Prickley 3-6 inch cones drop seeds in September of their second year.
To sprout the seeds, place fresh seeds in a plastic bag filled with moist but not wet mix of 1/3 sand, 1/3 soil, 1/3 humus, and refrigerate for 1 1/2 months, and then plant the seeds in a deep container with soil mix kept moist.
