White Fir
Abies concolor
This tree grows to 210 feet tall and 5 or 6 feet in diameter.
The bark is up to 6 1/2 inches thick ashy grey-brown with deep fissures and wide ridges and becomes a smooth silvery-white with resin blisters on the upper branches.
The cones are 3 to 5 inches long with scales wider than long.
To sprout the 1/3 to 1/2 inch long yellow-brown seeds with rose-colored wings, place fresh seeds in a plastic bag filled with moist but not wet mix of 1/3 sand, 1/3 soil, 1/3 humus, and refrigerate for 1 1/2 months, and then plant the seeds in a deep container with soil mix kept moist.
